About

Dylan James Godbey is a tenor from Stanford, Kentucky that has made a home on the musical theatre, operatic, and contemporary-commercial music stages. Dylan attended Belmont University’s School of Music in Nashville, Tennessee where he obtained a Bachelor’s of Music in (Classical) Voice Performance and studied with Dr. Kristi Whitten. While at Belmont he appeared on the operatic stage in principal and comprimario roles, and spent three years singing tenor I in the University’s flagship ensemble Chorale; under the baton of Dr. Jeffery Ames. In addition to his academic career in Nashville, Dylan also performed numerous, consistent gigs in the greater area, sung with the Nashville Opera Chorus, and began his teaching journey as a private voice instructor.

Dylan received a Master’s of Music in (Classical) Voice Performance from NYU Steinhardt, as well as an Advanced Certificate of Vocal Pedagogy. Dylan studied in the studio of Dr. Christopher Preston Thompson, and appeared in multiple productions on the operatic and musical theatre stage during his time at NYU. Dylan served as an adjunct instructor of voice for NYU Steinhardt under the supervision of Dr. Justin John Moniz and Professor Dianna Heldman, instructing a studio of varying majors while obtaining his Advanced Certificate. In addition to Steinhardt produced productions, Dylan also appeared in the seasons of NYU Lamplighters, NYU Classical Voice Collective, and 24k Theatre Company.

In the more recent years, Dylan has performed at Young Artist Festivals such as Opera in the Ozarks (2021), Classical Movements: Alexandria Summer Nights (2022), Hawaii Performing Arts Festival (2022), and Miami Music Festival (2023). Dylan has served as a private instructor of voice for Traveling Music Lessons Nashville, and has served as a recurring music director for West T. Hill Theatre’s Summer musicals in his home state of Kentucky.

Dylan is incredibly passionate about storytelling in multiple facets, and strives to find new ways to reach new audiences. Dylan is also insistent on fostering the next generation of artists in his students, constantly searching for ways to communicate the need for diverse storytelling and authentic love for the art they create.
