About
Dylan James Godbey is a Kentucky native whose career has spanned the worlds of musical theatre, opera, and contemporary commercial music. He holds a Master of Music in Vocal Performance and an Advanced Certificate in Vocal Pedagogy from New York University’s Steinhardt School, where he studied in the studio of Christopher Preston Thompson. Dylan also earned a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from Belmont University, studying under Dr. Kristi Whitten.
Hailed for his “agile character tenor with a flair” (South Florida Classical Review), Dylan has performed throughout the United States in both educational and professional settings. He made his professional debut with the Nashville Opera Chorus in Verdi’s Rigoletto and spent much of his undergraduate career performing as a Tenor I in Belmont University’s premier ensemble, Chorale, under the baton of acclaimed conductor and composer Jeffery Ames. During his studies at Belmont and NYU, he appeared in numerous operatic and musical theatre productions under the direction of Abigail Santos Villalobos, A. Scott Parry, Ted Sperling, and other distinguished artists.
Over the past year, Dylan has spent the majority of his time on the regional musical theatre stage, amassing over 100 performances of Fiddler on the Roof between the Broadway Palm Dinner Theatre and Dutch Apple Dinner Theatre. He also made his New York City professional debut as a member of the original cast of Fall From Grace, a new musical that premiered at Open Jar Studios. Additional performance credits include appearances with the Miami Music Festival, Hawaii Performing Arts Festival, Opera in the Ozarks, Alexandria Summer Nights, and others.
A passionate storyteller and educator, Dylan is dedicated to using music and theatre as a means of connection and expression. Equally at home singing opera, musical theatre, and contemporary repertoire, he continually seeks opportunities to expand his artistry, reach new audiences, and deepen his impact as a performer and music educator.
“I’m constantly learning, and that is the greatest gift of life in my opinion - to always be learning and growing.”
